Etap 7 jesp pierwszym etapem w kierunku południowej Francji i Francuskich Pireneji.  To jast najbardziej płaski etap tegorocznego wyścigu i w porównani z innymi rejonami Francji, jedzie przez nudny teren.  Ten 218 km etap zaczyna sie w Le Mans, miejsce słynnego 24 godzinnego wyścigu samochodowego przez prawie 90 lat.

Po wtorkowym 4-tym etapie, Thor Hushovd powiedział że Garmin-Cervelo może będzie mógł otrzymać zieloną koszulkę przez jeszcze trzy etapy.  Jeżeli Garmin-Cervelo dalej maja tą koszulkę na początku 7-ego etapu, beda bardzo zainteresowani gonieniu spodziewanych ucieczek, i przygotowywaniu Tyler Farrara na sprint do mety (i Thor Hushovd)
