Post del 5 luglio: Con la settima tappa iniziamo la nostra prima frazione nel sud della Francia e dei Pirenei francesi. Questa è la tappa più piatta del Tour su un percorso alquanto noioso per gli standard francesi. I 218 km di percorso iniziano a Le Mans che ospita la famosa 24 Ore di Le Mans, una competizione per vetture sportive che si tiene dal 1923, per poi dirigersi a sud-est di Châteauroux che ha ospitato il Tour de France due volte in passato.
Dopo la tappa di Martedì 4, Thor Hushovd ha dichiarato che la Garmin-Cervelo potrebbe essere in grado di tenere la maglia gialla per ulteriori tre tappe. Se la Garmin-Cervelo dovesse avere ancora la maglia nella settima tappa, poi sarebbe particolarmente interessata a inseguire l’ inevitabile fuga per preparare la volata di gruppo finale per Tyler Farrar (e Thor Hushovd). Il Tour è stato ospitato all’arrivo da Châteauroux appena tre anni fa, quando il 23enne Mark Cavendish ha vinto la sua prima tappa del Tour de France con un ampio vantaggio sul secondo in uno sprint, inutile dirlo. – Steve (trad.
