Пятый этап стартует в Эперне, столице Шампани, региона Франции, в котором в какую сторону ни смотри, виноградники в изобилии. Эперне принимал этапы Тура в 1978 и 2002 гг. Затем мы продолжим путь на юг через два подъёма 4-й категории в начале, затем строго по равнине, оставляя Париж в 35 км к западу.
Также, как и на финише прошлого этапа, Робби Макюэн выигрывал в Монтаржи в 2005 г.
В этом году снова ожидается спринтерский финиш в Монтаржи, городе известном своими 131 мостами и аллеями.За эти мосты Монтаржи прозвали "Венецией Гатине". Однако всё зависит от результатов этапа в Аренберге и тех пробелов в генеральной классификации, что после него появятся. Новый лидер гонки, если таковой останется, может и не захотеть Жёлтой Майки в начале месяца -- Steve /Михаил Колокольцев
