Semi Sančez (Sammy Sanchez) je poslednje tri sezone pobeđivao na ovoj završnici, na Trci oko Baskije (Tour of the Basque Country), ali on ne učestvuje na ovogodišnjoj Vuelti
19 avgust: Treća etapa je prva brdska etapa na ovogodišnjoj Vuelti. Njena trasa se kreće u smeru severa, od vinograda Faustina V., grada domaćina 17. etape prošlogodišnje Trke oko Baskije. Cilj u Eibaru (Arateu) je poslednje tri sezone korišćen na Vuelti a PaezVasko (VueltaaPaisVasco – Trka oko Baskije), pri čemu je sva tri puta pobeđivao Semi Sančez (Sammy Sanchez). Ova umereno-brdska etapa koja sadrži četiri kategorisana uspona završava se usponom 1. kategorije, nakon kojeg sledi kratak spust.
