Stage 5 preview: Sierra Nevada → Valdepeñas de Jaén, 187 km (hilly)

Stage 5 will feature a beautiful course with the same grueling finish in Valdepeñas de Jaén as last year. Here's Igor Anton winning the 27% grade finish in 2010. (more photos from 2010)

August 23 post: Stage 5 will be a hilly stage through the beautiful Granada and Jaén regions before the very difficult cat 2 finishing climb in Valdepeñas de Jaén. The finish is the same as last year's Stage 4 including the 27% wall just 500m from the line. Euskaltel Euskadi's Igor Antón won this stage last year, but he just lost 1:36 on the stage 4 finish at Sierra Nevada on Tuesday so he isn't likely to repeat. Joaquím Rodríguez (Katusha, 3rd last year) is safe pick for this type of finish. Michele Scarponi (Lampre-ISD) should like it as well. — Steve
