September 15 post: Stage 18 is a short, flat stage heading southwest across the central plateau between two Castilla y León cities that have hosted Vuelta stages many times in the past, Valladolid and Salamanca. In fact, Valladolid was the first stage finish of the Vuelta when it first ran back in 1935.
Several sprinters have opted out recently to start their Worlds preparations including stage 6 winner Thor Hushovd and the winless Oscar Freire. Mark Cavendish is still here; he can't leave if he's wearing the Green Jersey!
