March 5 update: Other than a few roundabouts, this looks like your typical flat, urban TT. Denis Menchov is only 5s behind Alberto Contador... the overall winner should be one of the two. 24 year-old Jerome Coppel was 5th at the Vuelta a Andalucia prologue last week and he's only 3s back of Contador so don't rule him out. — Steve

March 5 update: This will be the hardest mountain stage on the UCI Europe circuit so far this year. It's a stage that gets progressively harder, climaxing with cat 2 climb followed the cat 1, Alto Collado Bermego, a climb that is frequently used in the Tour of Murcia and the Vuelta a Espana. However, this year rather than a long descent to the finish, there will be just a 7 km descent to Sierra Espuña, a national park on the outskirts of Murcia. The finish, as you can see below, is flat so we could have an ugly climbers bunch sprint to decide who wears the leader's jersey heading into the individual time-trial finale on Sunday. March 3 update: The Tour of Murcia is going to be short and sweet this year with only three stages. Stage 1 will be hilly featuring three cat 3 climbs before a downhill run to the finish. The day will start in San Pedro del Pinatar before following the Mediterranean coast south and west. At the half point we'll head north for one circuit around Alhama de Murcia. This stage should end in a bunch sprint but there aren't many sprinters in the field. See the race summary table (right) for the stage profile, map and timetable. — Steve
