Trofeo Senza Fine / The Endless Trophy at the Stage 2 start in Stupinigi (Nichelino)share this photo

5th today Peter SAGAN (SVK/BORA-HANSGROHE): “The stage was quite straightforward and it played out the way we were expecting, with a fast sprint finish. Up to the last kilometres, it was easy but in the finale, you had to be really focused as it could be messy. It was important to stay safe and avoid any crashes. I think the result reflects the field of sprinters in this Giro. I'd like to thank again my teammates for their work all day, I felt that my condition is getting better.”share this photo
All eyes were on the stage favorite, Caleb EWAN (AUS/LOTTO SOUDAL), who was a disappointing 10th today: “We came into the last two kilometres a little bit too far back and every time we tried to move up, there was some slight corner, so the bunch was always going from left to right. We were kind of blocked a lot of the time,” Ewan explained post-race. “In the crucial part in the last five hundred metres, we were just too far back and it was hard to sprint from the position I was in.”share this photo

"W" salute. Tim Merlier post-race: "I paid tribute to Wouter Weylandt on the line. I knew him from the Schelde peloton. I knew he was a good sprinter. I was in a training camp in the Ardennes ten years ago at the time, it was a very emotional day. Today’s sprint was very hectic but the team brought me to the perfect position at the last roundabout. I've done nice sprints before but this one is my best victory so far."share this photo

Maglia Rosa Filippo Ganna said: “They've told me that a lot of people are getting into cycling because of me, if it's true, I'm pleased to hear that. Watching cycling doesn't cost a thing and it's great if new people are starting to ride because of it. Already last year in Siciily and on Etna, I heard so many people cheering for me from the side of the road. Maybe towards the end of last year they only recognised the Maglia Rosa, while this year they know me by name too. I don't think I am a superhero though! The superheroes are the people who were on the front line during lockdown.”share this photo
