Wout VAN AERT (BEL/JUMBO - VISMA) arrives in Piazza del Campo with no one else in the frame | Twice a past podium finisher at this race and now this year's champion, Wout VAN AERT (BEL/JUMBO - VISMA) | “It’s a great source of satisfaction to win Strade Bianche. It’s really nice to say after the first race back that my season is already a success. I didn't want to waste any chances. I really focused on this race and it paid off. It was a very hard edition of Strade Bianche, especially at the beginning as it was quite difficult for me to ride in a peloton after a long time away from racing. I felt like myself again a bit later and I was able to make the most of my chances in the finale.” - Wout VAN AERT (BEL/JUMBO - VISMA) |
2nd Davide FORMOLO (ITA/UAE TEAM EMIRATES) + 30s and 3rd Maximilian SCHACHMANN (GER/BORA - HANSGROHE) + 32s | “Over the last two editions of Strade Bianche, I gained a lot of confidence. It's never easy to win and it was harder than usual in today's circumstances. It makes the win even better. This is proof that I'm at the highest level now. To have won Strade Bianche at the age of only 25, with a cyclocross background is a huge achievement.” - Wout VAN AERT (BEL/JUMBO - VISMA) | For me, [second] is a very good result and on my home roads. My legs were feeling really well. In the end, I suffered in the hot weather because I just came, yesterday, from a training camp at altitude" , 2nd place Davide FORMOLO (ITA/UAE TEAM EMIRATES) |
It was a very hard, very tough race and I knew one of the key factors today would be how to manage the heat. So, I cooled myself often, I rode the first four sectors really easy at the back and I could see that everybody was tired. In Santa Maria I felt I had quite good legs and I tried a little bit in the last part. In Santa Maria I almost crashed twice, we could barely see anything with the dust, so in the last sector I went a little bit easy and I think it was a mistake. Van Aert was able to go away, I tried to catch him but that meant I spent all my energy and couldn't make it for the sprint. However, overall, I think it was a good start to the second part of the season." - 3rd Maximilian SCHACHMANN (GER/BORA - HANSGROHE) + 32s | Your 2020 Strade Bianche winner, Wout VAN AERT (BEL/JUMBO - VISMA) | Your 2020 Strade Bianche podium: 2nd place Davide FORMOLO (ITA/UAE TEAM EMIRATES) + 30s, 1st Wout VAN AERT (BEL/JUMBO - VISMA), 3rd Maximilian SCHACHMANN (GER/BORA - HANSGROHE) + 32s |
