Stage 0:  Pre-Race Press Conference  Full Results and Report

Tour of Britain pre-race press conference with Geraint Thomas, Mark Cavendish, Dan Martin, Taylor Phinney and shown in other photos, Alex Dowsett, Caleb Ewan and Mick Bennett. Taylor Phinney, Cannondale Drapac: "The time trial on Stage Five is a big target for myself and Ryan Mullen. For me personally this is one of my favourite races on the calendar because the fans and support on the side of the road are bigger and more awesome than most races we do, so I always look forward to coming to the Tour of Britain.” (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)

Caleb Ewan and Alex Dowsett on the far end. Caleb Ewan, Orica Scott: "The courses here tend to suit me really well with the punchy climbs. I've had a good break in the middle of the year so hopefully my form has come up good for this.” and Alex Dowsett, Movistar Team: "It's nice that the time-trial is so close to home, I'll have a lot of friends and family out supporting. I went and looked at the course recently and it's a good one for me. By far it's the strongest time-trial start-list we've had in Britain." (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)

Mark Cavendish, Team Dimension Data: "I have to be realistic, I'm not a machine. I'm not looking at individual results here, but as part of Dimension Data we can get results. (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)

Geraint Thomas, Team Sky: "I'm really looking forward to the race, the crowds are unbelievable these days, to see how far it's come. The first one I did was with Cav back in 2005, so it's a bit different to then! (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)

Dan Martin, Quick-Step Floors: "We've got a really strong team here, I think we can really aim high. Fernando Gaviria should be strong for the sprints and the harder stages. It's definitely not going to be an easy race this week but the team spirit will really push us through.” (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)

"It's not often we get to race at home, so to come here – it's always something special to come out and experience it, to absorb the atmosphere. The support we have here, to see it grow over the last decade is phenomenal.” (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)

Despite taking the long side of the finish, Caleb EWAN (AUS/ORICA - SCOTT) wins Stage 1 ahead of 2nd Edvald BOASSON HAGEN (NOR/DIMENSION DATA), 3rd Elia VIVIANI (ITA/SKY), 4th Alexander KRISTOFF (NOR/KATUSHA ALPECIN), 5th Fernando GAVIRIA RENDON (COL/QUICK - STEP FLOORS), 6th Christopher LAWLESS (GBR/GREAT BRITAIN) (credit: Allan McKenzie/SWpix.com)

"When I crossed the line I was pretty confident that I got it”, said Ewan speaking afterwards. "I know it was pretty close, but I thought I had got it. Then I saw all the cameras go around Eddy and I thought hang on a minute. When it is that close you just don't know, and I saw Viviani as well round the outside. I was definitely happy to learn that I had won." (credit: Allan McKenzie/SWpix.com)

"It was a pretty tricky finish, because of that tight corner, and obviously the cobblestones at the finish. We definitely wanted to be in front when the cobbles started. Luka had to get me out in front with about 200m to go. Because of the six men teams, you can't go too early, because you will just run out of guys." (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)

Winner's post-race press conference with Caleb EWAN (AUS/ORICA - SCOTT): "It was a pretty tricky finish, because of that tight corner, and obviously the cobblestones at the finish. "The boys did very well, I can't complain about the lead out. I just had to sit there and get taken through the tricky parts.” (credit: Simon Wilkinson/SWpix.com)
