first rider to try and get away was Tom Scully (NZ/Cannondale)

Scully soon joied by Roman Guillemoz (direct energie FRA) and Fabien Canal (Armee de Terre FRA)

after the first group was reeled in by bunch, Julien Loubet FRA (Armee de Terre) and Elie Gesbert FRA (Fortuneo) made the first break to stick


Silvan Dillier SUI BMC also bridged across


Dillier went ahead but Loubet and Gessbert were never far behind.

Gaps between Dillier, the 2 chasers, and peloton held for some time

Michal Golas (POL/Sky) did a lot of work in the chase


Elle Gessbert (fra/fortuneo) was dropped by escape on the main climb of the day

Jeremy Roy (france/fdj) led a reformed 2nd chase group on the main climb

kenny elissonde (france sky), romain guilemois (france direct energie) and jeremy roy (france fdj), elie gessbert (france fortuneo) and clement chevrier (france ag2r) became group 2 on the road


julien loubet (france aremee de terre) and silvan dillier (sui bmc) were group 1






chasing to join the 2nd group was luis angel mate (spain cofidis)


silvan dillier (sui bmc) was strong enough to drop loubet again

loubet here in no-mans land between dillier and the group now inc luis angel mate behind

luis angel mate joined dillier, elissonde and the rest in the chase group, peloton now 5 mins back

gatis smukulis (Latvia Delko Marseille) provence team was carrying bottles for the whole team, but still not far behind the group ahead

Julien LOUBET (ARMEE DE TERRE) attacked the break over the final climb and solo the descent to the finish in Saint-Pons-de-Thomières

Part way up the tourmalet the break split up, Gianni MOSCON (SKY) and Pierre ROLLAND (CANNONDALE DRAPAC) at the front




Geraint Thomas

Wout Poels and Geraint Thomas(SKY) struggled to hold the pace of the reducing group




Silvan Dillier (BMC) was very strong staying with the escape almost all the way up the Tourmalet

The front of the race Gianni MOSCON (SKY), Pierre ROLLAND (CANNONDALE DRAPAC) and Nicolas EDET (COFIDIS)


Nicolas EDET (COFIDIS) dropped again but not for good



















Silvan DILLIER (BMC RACING) joined the front group and pulling his way into the race lead









Pierre ROLLAND (CANNONDALE DRAPAC) pulled away to win by 42s over Gianni MOSCON (SKY)



2nd Gianni MOSCON (SKY) + 42s, 3rd Richard CARAPAZ (MOVISTAR), 4th Rigoberto URAN (CANNONDALE DRAPAC)

5th Silvan DILLIER (BMC RACING) + 55s moving him into the race lead by 1s over Richard CARAPAZ (MOVISTAR)

9th Serio Henao (SKY) + 2:15

Best young rider and 2nd overall just 1s out of the race lead, 3rd Richard CARAPAZ (MOVISTAR)
