Sammy Sanchez has won this finish the last three years at the Tour of the Basque Country, but he isn't racing the Vuelta
August 19 update: Stage 3 is the first mountain stage of this Vuelta. The course heads north from the vineyards of Faustino V, last year's Stage 17 host to the Basque Country. The finish in Eibar (Arrate) has been used the last three years at Vuelta Pais Vasco with Sammy Sanchez winning each time. The medium mountainous stage featuring four categorized climbs ends with a cat 1 climb and short descent. Another good climber and descender with a good finishing sprint will win this stage in Sammy Sanchez' absence possibly someone like Alejandro Valverde. — Steve
