Consistent throughout, Xavier Tondo is your 2011 Vuelta Castilla y León overall winner although he didn't win a stage. Oddly enough, none of the three riders on the GC podium won a stage. Big Photos from all 5 Stages — reuters |

April 17 update: With an 11s lead and one flat stage remaining, Xavier Tondo (Movistar Team) all but has the overall win locked up. It's been a very good week for Movistar with two stage wins by Francisco Ventoso and the overall lead. Now Ventoso has a chance for the hat-trick today to go along with his teammate's overall win.

April 15 update: With an individual time-trial 11.2 km in length, the organizers have been very sensible for a five day stage race. The course is a little technical at the start but straight-forward for the most part.
The current race leader, Bauke Mollema (Rabobank), is a good time-trialer. In fact, he came a very solid 13th on stage 6 at Paris-Nice in March finishing one spot ahead of Luis Leon Sanchez. Looking at the current leaderboard, it's doubtful there will be a change at the top after Saturday's TT.

April 14 update: Stage 3 is the only stage mountain of this year's event. The riders have enjoyed the great weather and picturesque scenary the first two days now lets get down to business.
There are two cat 1 climbs at the end of this stage in the Sierra de la Cabrera, a protected mountainous area in Northern Spain. The steeper and longer of the two, El Peñón (profile) translates quite simply to "The Rock" in English. It's 15 km long with an average grade of 6.1% and crests 46 km from the finish where there will be summit finish on Laguna de Los Peces. Laguna de Los Peces (profile) is 13 km long and averages about 5.4% finishing at 1740m el. These climbs aren't too difficult but should be a good test and if Alberto Contador, Igor Anton, Xavier Tondo and Carlos Sastre make it their business to do so, there will be time gaps at the finish.

April 14 update: Stage 2 features a rolling route starting from Valladolid, the capital of the Castilla y León region and heading southwest to the finish in Salamanca. This route lacks profile-wise, but some may find the history and scenery interesting.
As the banner description at the top of the page says, this will be roughly the same route as stage 18 of the Vuelta a Espana last year which ended in a field sprint won by Mark Cavendish.

March 15 update: Vuelta a Castilla y León (Tour of Castile and Leon) is a 5-day stage race held in the Castilla y León region of Northern Spain running Wednesday April 14th to Sunday April 18th this year.
The 2011 route details were announced on March 11th and now know there will be short individual time-trial (11 km), one mountain stage, a hilly circuit finish for stage 2 and two sprint stages. With only one mountain stage, this year's race is easier than previous editions. The race will feature 15 teams including ProTour teams: Movistar, Euskaltel-Euskadi, Sky, Rabobank, RadioShack and Saxo Bank-SunGard. Spaniards Alberto Contador, Carlos Sastre and Igor Anton are marquee names that have committed so far. See the race summary table for all the stage profiles and timetables. More to come.
