August 28 post: At the half way point of this year's Vuelta, we have the first and only individual time-trial at this year's event. Picturesque Salamanca in the Castilla y León region will host a 47 km TT on a non-technical loop that climbs gradually in the first half and then descends back to the finish. This is the third time Salamanca has hosted a TT and ten years old David Millar, wearing some funky goggles, won a short TT in Salamanca to open the 2001 Vuelta a Espana. After this stage and the rest day on Tuesday there will be seven mountain stages still remaining but no more individual time-trialing. Well-rounded general classification riders like Bradley Wiggins and Vincezno Nibali have a good opportunity to gain three or four minutes on the pure climbers prior to these upcoming mountain stages. — Steve
