February 23 update: The final day is a rolling stage from the stage 4 finish in Córdoba south to the uphill-step finish in Antequera. It's not a difficult finish (one 10% step) and there should be another (bunch) sprint. The GC is pretty tight, but no one from the top of the GC (see below) is likely to get bonus time at the finish. — Steve

February 21 update: Stage 2 has lots of climbing, probably the most of any stage at this year's event Starting from Almuñécar, the race will head east along the coast before turning inland for three climbs labeled either cat 1 or cat 2 depending on whether you look at the official profile or official map In any case, after lots of climbing the race will descend back to the coast for the flat finish in Adra after 162 km It was a beautiful day for the opening TT and the warm temps will carry over to day 2 although it will be very windy — Steve

2011 Vuelta a Andalucia - Ruta Ciclista del Sol Race Preview
February 8 update: This race, in the southern most province of Spain, is another of those tune-up stage races for the big names and an opportunity to burst onto the scene for the youngsters Vuelta a Andalucia overlaps with Volta ao Algarve this year, but there is lots of talent to go around.. at least that's what race organizers say Check the provisional startlist for yourself.Vuelta a Andalucia is a lumpy-hilly race, but the finishes aren't too difficult I've labelled stage 2 a mountain stage because it has two cat 1 and a cat 3 climbs before a downhill finish, definitely the hardest of the five stages.
See the stage map (use the timetable link) and profiles right and scroll down for the early startlist More to come...
