Mark Renshaw has a 6s lead over Heinrich Haussler so it will come down to the bonus seconds at the line again. — Steve

February 9 update: Stage 4 is almost an out and back; however the return route back south is on a differenct road and the finish in Al Kharaitiyat is just west of the start in West Bay Lagoon. The winds will be moderate (8 mph WNW) which means the return trip south will be the faster leg. — Steve

Stage 2 is shaped like a horseshoe with the riders heading north and then looping south again to finish about 25 km further to the east just outside of Doha. January 19 update: The 2011 Tour of Qatar (Tour du Qatar, Ronde van Qatar), the 10th anniversary of the event, is Sunday February, 6th to Friday February, 11th. Information on the route is often posted very late and its not publicly available yet. However, we do know that for the first time the race will start with a prologue consisting of 2.5 km course in Cultural Village. No word yet on whether QuickStep's Tom Boonen, three-time winner of the event including 17 stage wins, will be racing. The North American broadcaster, Versus, will be streaming live video of every stage. — Steve
