Thomas VOECKLER gets the main break of the day started on Opede le Vieux after just 17 km of racing

Thomas VOECKLER looking good early in the season

The day turned out rather nice

The finish in Pertuis some 120 km later. The five man break barely succeeds and now it's down to two men with just meters to go.

For some unknown reason, Laurent MANGEL of Saur-Sojasun thought he had plenty of time for a victory salute when he should have been throwing his bike...

... Laurent MANGEL looks over to see that the wily veteran Thomas VOECKLER of Europcar has stolen the win

Now there's a victory salute

Thomas VOECKLER your stage 1 winner

"Your team logo goes here" unless it's cold enough to wear your team jersey underneath for the semi-transparent look

Stage 2:  Saint-Cannat → Rousset  Full Results and Report

"Russian Global Cycling Project": did you know there are six UCI road races in Russia on the UCI World Calendar but nothing above class 1.2 or 2.2 ?

Thomas Voeckler, ready to defend the Yellow Jersey which he did successfully today

Saur-Sojasun's Laurent Mangel should be wearing yellow instead of green today, but he doesn't seem to mind

The start in Saint-Cannat just north of Aix-en-Provence

A lone rider off the front...

... making his way up the cat 1 Col des Portes at the halfway point of the 120 km stage

France's Anthony Colin of Roubaix Lille Metropole was first to the top of Col des Portes

The remaining KOM points on Col des Portes went to Rémi Pauriol (Fra) FDJ, Franck Bouyer (Fra) Team Europcar and Damien Gaudin (Fra) Team Europcar

Some welcome good news for Vacansoleil

Third two weeks ago at Grand Prix d'Ouverture La Marseillaise and now his first win of the year. It's also the first win for the new ProTour team, Vacansoleil-DCM

Stage 3:  Carnoux-en-Provence → La Farlede  Full Results and Report

Race leader Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) multi-tasking at the start in Carnoux-en-Provence

Thomas Voeckler would lose his Yellow Jersey on the last day for the pure sprinters

Action on and off the road

Justin JULES (La Pomme Marseille) on the right has given up on the sprint finish in La Farlede

Romain FEILLU (Vacansoleil-DCM) gets his second win in as many days while Yauheni HUTAROVICH (FDJ) nips in for second ahead of Justin JULES (La Pomme Marseille) who, apparently, is only concerned with winning

Things are looking up for Vacansoleil-DCM

Your stage 3 winner...

... and your new race leader

Stage 4:  La Londe Les Maures → Biot  Full Results and Report

The break led by a Movistar rider on the cat 3 Col du Pas du Cerf very early in the race. Chapeau to Anthony Rous of FDJ (second man) for staying away until the 2 km mark.

Stage 5:  Biot → Toulon, Mont-Faron  Full Results and Report

Jean-Christophe Peraud (Ag2R) attacked at the base of Mt Faron (5.5 km avg grade 9%) and later joined by David Moncoutie (Cofidis)

Peraud and Moncoutie neck and neck with about 1 km to go

The last 3 km were 10-12%

This gives you an idea of how steep and narrow the road is

Wout Poels (Ned) Vacansoleil-DCM climbed his way to third on the day (+ 0:18) and 3rd overall

Andrew Talansky (USA) Garmin-Cervelo closed the gap on Wout Poels and finished with the same time for 4th overall

Thomas Voeckler (Fra) Team Europcar put in a good effort finishing 13th (+ 0:38)

Most people expected the Yellow Jersey to change hands today...

... David Moncoutie (Cofidis) wins Mont Faron and the overall

Not a good day for scenic shots, but this gives you an idea of the view overlooking Toulon and the Mediterranean Sea. See last year's Mont Faron photos for more scenic shots

Today's winner also won Mont Faron at Tour Med in 2003

... and Moncoutie wins the overall by 11s over Jean-Christophe Peraud (Fra) AG2R La Mondiale and 24s over 3rd Wout Poels (Ned) Vacansoleil-DCM
