5월 13일: 스테이지 8은 올해 지로의 몇 안되는 스프린트 피니쉬 스테이지 중 하나이지만 순수 스프린터들을 가로막을 수도 있는 작은 장애물이 있습니다. 트로페아의 결승점으로 부터 2km에 700m 길이의 경사도 7.8%(정상부근 8.5%)의 섹션이 마지막 km가 평탄해지기 전에 위치해 있습니다.

2004년 올림픽 챔피언 파올로 베티니는 2005년 지로의 개막 스테이지였던 트로페아의 이 섹션에서 그 누구도 따라올 수 없는 어택으로 승리를 차지했습니다. 올해 참가한 선수들 중에도 똑같은 방식으로 성공할 수 있는 puncheur가 있을까요?

이번 스테이지는 사프리에서 출발하여 217km 내내 쪽빛 티레니아 해를 내려다보는 구불구불한 해안 도로를 따라 남쪽으로 향하게 됩니다. 트로페아에서 스테이지를 마침으로써 우리는 이탈리아 반도의 최남단 근처에 있게되는 셈이죠. 트로페아는 암초 위에 만들어진 불가사의한 동네입니다. 다른 출처의 이 트로페아의 사진들은 그곳이 얼마나 경이로운 곳인지 잘 보여줍니다. 저는 해변에 매달려 있는 건물에 투자해 돈을 날리긴 원치 않지만, 일주일 정도 렌탈은 괜찮을 듯 싶군요. - 스티브
