La epata disputada en Montalcino el año pasado fue impactante. En esta edición vuelve a transitar los caminos de la Toscana, incluyendo tres colinas de la prueba Strade Bianche en los últimos 40 kilómetros. Esas colinas poseen subidas que alcanzan el 15% con descensos técnicos. A diferencia del año pasado esta pronosticado buen tiempo para la epata a disputarse el próximo miercoles. Con una longitud de 191 kilómetros, la prueba finaliza en Orvieto, región de Umbria, un antiguo pueblo en lo alto de una colina, habitado desde tiempos prehistóricos. Hay sectores del 12% de pendiente, de 200 metros de longitud, a 2 kilómetros de la meta en donde el terreno se nivela. Los últimos 500 metros son más bien planos.

La edición 2002 del Giro tuvo un final de etapa en Oriveto. El español Aitor González Jiménez (Kelme-Costa Blanca) triunfó sobre un grupo de 40 candidatos a la clasificación general por 4 segundos. -- Ariel C.
