5월 6일: 세번째 스테이지 칭퀘 떼레 북쪽 인근 이탈리안 리비에라에 위치한 라팔로에서 마침으로써 지로가 이탈리아 반도 서안으로 돌아왔습니다. 1999년, 네 개의 산악 고개를 지나 라팔로에서 끝난 82회 지로의 난해했던 13번째 스테이지에서 고군분투하던 프랑스인 히찰드 뷔렌퀴(팀 폴티)가 우승했습니다. 올해의 세번째 스테이지는 북부 아페닌 산맥의 큰 클라임들은 피했지만 스테이지 후반부의 cat 3와 cat 4 두 개의 카테코라이즈드 클라임에서 혼전이 예상됩니다.

레기오 에밀랴의 평지에서 출발하게 되는 선수들은 총 173km의 스테이지 중 40km를 남겨두고 정상부근에 가파른 부분들로 인해 잠시라도 펠로톤이 나뉠 것으로 보이는 파쏘 델 보코(해발 950m)를 오르게 됩니다. 또한 최종 10km에 cat 4가 승리를 노리는 마지막 질주가 가능하도록 위치해 있고 4km를 남겨놓고 작은 언덕이 있습니다. 이번 스테이지는 대규모 스프린트에 안성맞춤입니다. -스티브
