June 19 update: There are no major climbs for stage 8, just more picturesque Swiss countryside.

Stage 8 starts where we left off in Wetzikon. We'll then head west and traverse the border with Germany where at two points we'll be just a stones throw away from the Swiss neighbour to the north. The finish is in Liestal after two hilly circuits in the surrounding area ( nice panoramic). Among the many lumps on the day are four cat 3 climbs. If this were the first stage of the race then it would probably end in a sprint finish. But the dynamics are different now: we have GC contenders interested in saving themselves for the final day individual time trial, we have fewer sprinters left in the race thanks to Mark Cavendish and we've been racing for a week now so general fatigue will be a factor. It seems likely a break will succeed again today; however, the organizers have setup a flat finish off of the circuits with some 90 degree corners. Watch and see how this stage unfolds. — Steve
