May 17 update: So we've reached the southern part of this year's Giro and now we'll head east to complete the southern loop. The March stage race Tirreno-Adriatico takes one week to meander its way coast-to-coast, but the riders will do it in one long, day on Tuesday. Stage 10 will travel coast-to-coast, across the narrowest part of Italy.

At 230 km, this stage is the second longest of this year's race. The profile is flat to rolling with just one GPM, a cat 3 in the first half of the stage. The weather forecast says it will be sunny at the start in Avellino and overcast with a small chance of rain when we hit the other coast in Bitonto. Threre will be one circuit in Bitonto and the last 500m will have a 3% grade.

The length of this stage, a moderate tailwind and the 3% grade at the finish will encourage a break to give it a good go knowing it will be a hard stage to control and it doesn't setup for a pure sprinter of which there are very few left in the race. If it does come down to a sprint then Greg Henderson would be my pick, but a break may succeed. — Steve
