June 7 update: Stage 1 heads southwest from the prologue host, Evian-les-Bains, through some beautiful, rolling French countryside along the south side of Mont Saléve. Before reaching Annecy, the route heads west and then south past historic Chambéry, in an area founded at the crossroads of ancient routes through the Dauphiné, Burgundy, Switzerland, and Italy.
The rolling route continues south to the finish in Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, where the last 5 km looks like this: a short descent (100m) at the 3 km point then a flat finish. There are four categorized climbs on the day but none of them are difficult. There should be a bunch sprint finish with a cat 3 climb just 6 km from the finish. — Steve
