Smog may delay Olympic road race
August 8 update:
The media scheduled to broadcast the Olympics were notified on Friday that the men's road race could be postponed due to thick smog in Beijing. The men's road race is still scheduled for Saturday beginning at 11:00 am local time. Organizers have set a deadline to start the race by 1:30 pm or else delay it for 24 hours. The women's road race is still scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 pm. — Fox Sports via cyclingnews
August 7 update: Lots of updates to report. See the new links categorized below. Your live video options are literally streaming in. — Steve
August 5 update: Below is a start to the essential links you'll need for following the cycling events and, in particular, the road race at the upcoming Olympic Games from Beijing, China. The road race course is billed as one of the most difficult Olympic courses ever and the notoriously poor Beijing air-quality will be a big factor. Male riders are slated to complete seven laps of a 24km circuit that climbs 520m per lap. That's 3640m or almost 12,000 ft of total climbing. As usual, this is a work in progress and if you have something to contribute then don't hesitate to let me know. — Steve

Spain may have the worst-looking kit at this Olympics, but with Sanchez, Sastre, Valverde, Freire and Contador (not pictured) wearing them, they will still be the favourites in the Road Race. (photo: AFP)
